I'm a simple emigrant and I always drink tea
My favorite drink comes first, then water. Statistics says that almost 80% of Germans choose mineral water as their favorite non-alcoholic drink. And then come 'Coca-Cola drinks'βI think Fant is among the favorites. Unlike Germans, I can't stand mineral water, and I don't like carbonated drinks in general. Recently I understood where this love, especially for orange soda, comes from. During World War II, there was no shipping between Germany and America, and Germans could not obtain Coca-Cola syrup. Then the head of the German plant decided to invent his own drink: thus Fant was born. At first it didn't have a fixed taste; it was made from whatever came to hand. More precisely, what was available here and now, seasonal, was used. After the war the factories merged and Fant stopped production. But as you can guess, they started again later. The love for orange Fant didn't go away, so later in Germany two more drinks were invented: Mezzo-Mix and Spezi. These are literally half-and-half mixed cola and orange soda. Moreover, if you order Spezi in a cafe, you are most likely to be served the mixed Fant and cola in a glass, not a Spezi bottle. This drink is very popular here; people mix it themselves at home.
