Post: I applied for permanent residency

I'm a simple emigrant and I applied for permanent residency

Let me be clear from the start: this will be a praising post. But, to prevent you from relaxing, here’s a spoonful of tar first: I had to obtain permanent residency because the citizenship process is dragging on; just a little more and my waiting time would reach two years. About three months before the end of my temporary residence permit, I received a paper letter. It said that it was time to submit a new application, and there was immediately a link to book an appointment. I did it that way at first, but then I decided it would be safer to request permanent residency right away and filed a second application. Everything is done online in five minutes if the documents are ready, and almost all of them can be quickly assembled online. Then they sent a letter themselves and asked which of the processes I wanted to continue; otherwise I would have to pay the fee for both. I submitted the form and received a copy of it. I looked, and it was blank, without my stamp. I had to write them another inquiry, also through the online form. I didn’t receive a reply, but I hoped that everything would be fine. So yesterday I showed up for my appointment: perfectly quick in and out, I immediately took a photo on the spot, and a nice female specialist confirmed that they had received everything and had already prepared. I think this is how they optimize now – they don’t respond to messages, but they get the work done. The consultant lays the payment list in front of me; I look, and there’s immediately a temporary visa included for 13 euros. I say: – I don’t need it. – Heh, too late, they’ve already done it. – Why did you do it if no one asked for it? – Well, just in case, they’ve decided to issue it right away. – They decided themselves; let them pay for it themselves. Or do you already know that the promised eight weeks won’t be enough? – I can’t say anything, but you have to pay 😅 – And you can’t refuse? – Nope. – All right, I say, bring your paper here. 😅 We both sit there half laughing at how my questions are logical, but there’s nothing you can do. In the end, I paid everything, got my papers, and left the building in a great mood. The security guard sees me, smiles back, and says, “Wow, that was fast! Until next time!” I reply, “Hopefully not” 😅. It felt very symbolic, in my opinion. Now we just have to wait. And we, as experienced emigrants, know how to do that; we practice. P.S. I still have an appointment on May 13 at 10:15. I’ll cancel it today, so if anyone needs it, write to me and I’ll cancel — and you’ll be able to book it right away. #Ordnung #useful
