I'm a simple emigrant and I discovered a new kind of hiking for myself
Hiking in Germany is a very popular pastime in general, and ever since my move here I’ve gotten into it. I love walking in the mountains and forests, enjoying the sounds of nature. And this time we found an even more interesting route—the Schnapsbrunnenweg. Schnapsbrunnenweg is a kind of hiking where along the entire route there are several stops with drinks. We walked along this route and it has five such stations. Each station is a fountain of pure drinking water, with bottles of various liqueurs, sometimes a couple of small snacks and a piggy bank. There are no sellers or hawkers, only farmers occasionally refill the bottles. And you pick what to drink yourself and put coins into the piggy bank. Usually one shot costs 1–2 euros, and unlimited drinking water is free. For our group I bought everyone a shot and pulled a handful of coins from my piggy bank — that was the right decision — I recommend you do the same. I think such a day trip is best done on weekends. Then you can arrive, walk the route at a leisurely pace, enjoy the views. Just don’t be fooled like me: the route is through the Black Forest, but a good half of it goes through fields and vineyards with no hint of shade or coolness. In the evening, going to a restaurant, for example Faesslewirt, was very tasty and the portions were simply gigantic, and then we stayed overnight in a camper. We parked here. All prices are on the website; the parking is very well maintained with outlets and clean toilets, though there are no showers. And the next day we also swam a bit in a lake in Baden-Baden. The lake is nice, but it feels like it’s been neglected a little. It looks prettier in photos, but in reality the whole beach is overgrown with fairly large weeds that can resist a blanket, there is absolutely no shade, very few umbrellas for rent and even fewer parking spots. But the lake itself and the water are pleasant, and the entrance price is only €3 per day, so I can still recommend going there.
