I'm a simple emigrant and I discovered hiking after work

People usually think that hiking is an activity for several days or, at least, for the weekend. But this week my friends and I proved that, having a 9-to-5 job, you can still find time for mini trips. So, on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. we met at the last metro stop and headed into the mountains. Well, into the mountains. Actually, there are none in Frankfurt, but nearby there is the Taunus mountain range. Its highest peak reaches 800 meters. We set off on a short route from the site Komoot about 10 km long with a 500-meter ascent. Almost the entire way there was vertical, and the descent quite gentle, as if you were walking on a straight road. It took us a little over an hour to reach Weiße Mauer — a place with large rocks and a beautiful view of the Taunus’s highest point. Another hour, and we reached the summit we wanted to conquer — 600 m above sea level. There we met three hikers; they were getting ready for the night. We spoke with them in German, and after an awkward joke about them in Russian, it turned out that two of them understood everything. This is a telling moment: in Frankfurt, it seems to me, it’s impossible to be in a place where there isn’t at least one Russian speaker. Even at the top of a mountain. On the way back we got a beautiful view of night-time Frankfurt, the bright lights of which are best viewed from afar. Then, in the more forested part of the route we turned off our flashlights and simply enjoyed the quiet and the starry sky. After descending around ten in the evening, we decided to stop by a Biergarten in a neighboring town. The kitchen was already closed, and everyone was hungry, so I ordered hot chocolate. You should have seen the look on the waiter taking my order. We stayed until closing, and by midnight I was already home, tired but happy. Have you ever gone hiking during the work week? #German_trips
