Another widely known fact that everyone envies is the income of waiters at Oktoberfest. Some of them really earn 10-12 thousand euros in two weeks. And this is after taxes. Previously it was practically impossible to get in there if you weren't the organizer's daughter/brother/svat or not connected by some blat. This time, waiters were sought from the street as well. So next year we have a chance! But few people know HOW waiters earn. First, they initially buy everything they need with their own money: uniforms, shoes, a wallet, notebooks, etc. And those who carry food, even huge trays, buy them for themselves – it looks like a big board with rubber, to keep the plates from sliding. Secondly, technically they aren’t paid a salary; on the contrary. They themselves buy beer and food at a discount from the stall owner with tokens, and then sort of resell it to us at a markup, at the menu price. That markup plus tips is their earnings. Therefore, when someone drops a big tray or several mugs of beer – he’s ready to cry, because he already bought all that beer, and no compensation is due to him. And that’s why a “foreign” waiter won’t serve you. Don’t be offended if he’s next to you but serves only the opposite stall: they divide their areas of responsibility, and their turnover belongs to a specific station. Sometimes crafty waiters can easily bypass even their own clients if they leave bad tips. Of course, you can catch them and still order what you wanted. But in any case, arguing with them is definitely not worth it – they’ll simply boot you out of the tent in a second and won’t let you in again. So the job isn’t easy, but the earnings aren’t bad either. The main thing: if you want to try to get in there next year, start building arm and back muscles now. After all, in one shift you’ll need to carry up to 30 kg with bent arms, weaving between drunk and cheerful guests, easily and with a smile. They say they can cover up to 20 km per shift – so skipping leg day isn’t worth it either.
