I'm a simple emigrant and I like the German language
But in five years here I never managed to learn it properly. Before the move I knew only a few words, and the set was pretty strange. For example, Sicherheitsrat – the Security Council, I knew it because I did Model UN, gesundheit – 'be healthy' – a German friend taught me during our study abroad, and so on, all sorts of useless random words. Next, I simply "lived in the environment," used my microscopic knowledge right away in practice, spoke funny and incorrectly, but I spoke. I think my spoken German is now around B1, and my grammar is below A1. Nevertheless, recently I watched three films in German, two of which I understood completely, and the third – about 30%, if not less. Sharing: Willkommen bei den Hartmanns – a comedy about a German family that takes in a refugee to help with the crisis. It’s funny and sometimes down-to-earth, with fairly simple German. Kalte Füße – a film about a thief who turns out to be a good guy inside. A typical cute comedy with a good ending; I even giggled a few times, and the German is understandable as well. Isi & Ossi – a rom-com where a girl from a good family, to spite her parents, hooks up with a boxing thug. Not particularly understandable German; friends say it's because half the film was in ghett o German. All three films are worth watching, mainly for practicing German.
