I'm a simple emigrant and I took a DNA test
That was a gift from my sister for my birthday. I received a small box, inside which lay instructions, two long DNA swab sticks, two vials, packets, and an envelope. In the account, this test costs 89€. First, you need to register on the site, fill in information about your parents and grandparents: names, places and dates of birth. Then with these sticks you need to collect DNA (saliva), put it into the vial, and snap off the tips so you can tightly close the cap. Next, you just have to package it all up and send it to the MyHeritage DNA laboratory in Hofheim. After just a couple of weeks, they send the results in the form of an epic video, where they show the estimate of ethnic ancestry in percentages by groups. The groups are fairly broad—check them out for yourself in the video above the post, but I would like it to be more precise. Yet even with that arrangement there were amazing discoveries: apparently I have Jewish and Italian roots. Another cool moment is that the laboratory, using your data, starts calculating potential relatives. It feels like the show “Wait for Me”: you receive a letter saying, “look, perhaps this is your sister three generations away.” In my case, there are probably many: I only have 12 close aunts and uncles on the direct line, and some nephews are much older than me. Now in my account I have 119 potential relatives. And have you studied your genetics and genealogy? #emigrant_happiness
