Post: I value kindness in people

I'm a simple emigrant and I value kindness in people

People often say about Germany that there are cold people here with whom you will never make friends. And in general everyone only cares about themselves, and no one has heard of a sense of community. I don't entirely agree with that. Of course, there isn't a cohesion for survival here. After all, it's a wealthy country and people here don't have to band together to cover basic needs. On the other hand, take, for example, clubs or neighborhood social networks β€” people strive to create a sense of community and have their own permanent community. That sense of belonging is very important for the quality of life. Moreover, in my experience, life in a big city is very different from life in small towns. In a city like Frankfurt, people are more driven by personal gain. But my friends in small towns, both in wealthy Bavaria and in less wealthy Thuringia, genuinely root for their hometown, for local shops and events. For example, when we went to a carnival, entry was free for us, but all the guys bought tickets just to support the organizers and everyone involved. Or we can walk around the city, and a friend will casually pick up trash from the ground and carry it to the trash can. Also, very often guys, regardless of income level, choose to go to local shops instead of supermarkets, even though there isn't much choice there, it's more expensive, and sometimes not even better quality. Or take the firefighters. A widely known fact is that in Germany more than 95% of firefighters are volunteers. That is, more than a million people volunteer and fight fires for free across the country. And in such squads there's no catch; people become volunteers from their inner feelings, out of a sense of duty and the thought "who, if not me." Yes, they are entitled to small perks, but risking their lives for them definitely doesn't make sense. So it's more of a small thank you from society than motivation. In general, don't forget that negativity and extreme cases are emphasized, but the ordinary life of ordinary people is often too "boring" to gather likes and reposts, and thus goes unnoticed. Although it is precisely this that presents a more authentic face of the country.
