I'm a simple emigrant and I'll tell you what to give at a German wedding
Money. In general, you could end the post here, but not so fast. Germans have a special opinion about how to give it properly. At big holidays, for example, weddings, anniversaries, engagements, it's customary to give not just money, but compositions made from it. Instead of the usual envelopes with cash, here people prefer to make origami. And it doesn’t even depend on the amount; they can give a twenty-euro note folded into a butterfly, or hang 500 euros around the composition. For example, once guests brought a basket with alcohol, chocolate, photos, and money hung all over it. Honestly, as a lover of fresh, crisp banknotes, I’m not a fan of this. Imagine, you’re given at a wedding, say, five thousand, but all the notes are creased; you have to unfold each one and ideally not tear anything. On the other hand – it’s still nice; you can feel some attention and effort. Like, we didn’t just withdraw from an ATM on the way to the celebration, we spent a couple of evenings on this whole installation, all for you! Take the idea, just practice first on paper; I’m not really good at origami. I can fold a boat and a little box, and that only through a whole origami tale. And what interesting gift-related traditions have you seen? #holidays #money #useful
