Post: Most importantly, legal

I'm a simple emigrant, and most importantly, legal

The document that lets me live and work here is a Blue Card work visa. While in Russia it can be obtained for a period of 3 to 6 months, and then after arriving you can apply for a residence permit for a longer term. My visa was for six months. During this time I managed to complete the probationary period at work. Practically right after arriving I went to the Ausländerbehörde (the immigration office) and filed an application for a residence permit. They scheduled an appointment to submit the documents and to obtain the residence permit on May 15 at 7:30 a.m.—the last day of my current visa. I had heard all sorts of stories about how horribly everything goes there and what jerks work there, and I went with great hope that I would get a normal manager, but I was prepared for anything. First quest: arriving by 7:30 is impossible because the building only opens at 7:31, and it’s a good thing I never arrive early — I had to wait only 5 minutes. Next quest: find the right office, and this is simply unreal! If your number is 01.010, you’ll have all numbers from 01.000 to 01.245 except the one you need, because you know where it is? Right, on another floor and there are no identifying signs, let alone clear big digits. After that the game begins, where you have to choose your Pokémon, though here you are the Pokémon! Every time I tried to enter, one of the managers told me in German to wait outside without explanations. My joy knew no bounds when another girl came out to meet me. She spoke English well and explained every moment to me. It turned out that the document from my employer indicating the duration for which the visa is required was missing, because my contract is permanent, and a residence permit is possible only for 3–4 years. She requested it through her system to speed things up. Therefore my packet of documents was accepted, and I was issued a temporary visa for six months costing €13, and the next appointment was scheduled for the first available date — July 17. Now the main thing is not to forget to put this in your calendar and not to lose the temporary paper during this time, because it obviously isn’t pasted anywhere. #useful
