I'm a simple emigrant and sometimes I'm glad that I don't live in Berlin
Last weekend in the capital of Germany, there was a protest for the right of women to walk around topless. Naturally, this news was covered by all the media, and when it reached me, my eyes rolled back so far that I saw all four of my neurons. It all began when a woman who was topless in a park with her friend and son was asked to dress. She didn’t like that, because her friend was also topless, and the police singled her out. Strictly speaking, she hadn’t broken any law, but there was nothing to appeals to either: there are simply no rules regulating this. Berlin generally has a reputation as a super liberal city; it differs greatly from the rest of Germany. Even I sometimes get the feeling that people there no longer know what other rights to advocate for, now a topless bike marathon. The media doesn’t report how many people were there, but from photos and videos, I think no fewer than 200 people. Women rode under the slogans “my body is my choice” and “stop sexism.” Funny enough, among the demonstrators were also men with inflatable breasts. But it seems to me they came more to laugh than to genuinely support the “poor” women in their fight for their rights. I honestly don’t understand this at all. All the problems in the world we’ve already solved, one remains—the ability to walk around the city topless. I think the porn industry will also be against this.
