I'm a simple emigrant, and the strawberry season has finally come to us
Late spring — early summer is the best time to enjoy large, local, very tasty berries, which I personally look forward to a lot, occasionally buying pretty but tasteless strawberries — hoping for luck! By the way, it’s also the season for asparagus and flowers. How can you make any food even tastier? Right, by realizing that it’s your own credit. Of course, I don’t have a place to grow strawberries, but I can pick them. Near Frankfurt there are several farms with publicly accessible fields of this berry, where anyone can come and pick as much as their heart desires. For example, some of them: - kinzigheimerhof.de - obsthof-am-steinberg.de - pauls-bauernhof.de - bauer-wuerfl.de - schelmenhaeuserhofgut.de I went to the last one, about 20 minutes by car from my home, and most importantly, the site says that the fields are not sprayed with chemicals. This is important because the rules are: you can come with your own container, you can buy one on the spot (a cardboard basket as in the photo — 1 euro), after entering the field you can pick berries and nibble a little, as you understand, it’s desirable that there are no chemicals on them. When you leave, all that you’ve picked is weighed and paid for (by the rules, you must buy something, you can’t simply come, eat and leave), but the price here is good, about 3.5 euros per kilogram, whereas in a store you can buy half a kilo for that much, and if you buy in the city center at special kiosks, you can pay up to 5 euros for 500 grams. In less than an hour I picked about 4 kg; I could have done more, but I was afraid it would spoil. Not a day had passed, and I already treated friends at my home, made a pie that we happily ate at two in the morning, and in the morning I even brought another tray to other friends on the way, and the fridge is still half full, but I think it won’t be for long! And do you like strawberries? #useful
