I'm a simple emigrant, but for now
After the new law was finally adopted and implemented locally, I finally had the opportunity to apply for German citizenship while keeping my Russian one as well. And I recently did it. The package of documents I needed turned out to be surprisingly simple: – a form with personal information about myself and my parents and a few consents, that you are for all that is good and against all that is bad; I’ll say upfront, there were no specific questions about the Russian Federation; – passport, local residence permit, and one photograph; – birth certificate with certified translation; – certificate of knowledge of German at B1; – certificate of passing the Life in Germany test; – employment contract and one payslip; – statement from the pension fund, to confirm continuous residence. In each state the submission process differs; with us I first sent all copies by physical mail, and already received a confirmation letter. In it they don’t even bother to write any deadlines, they just say: "we will now review your application for a very long time, and you should not write to us or call." Next I will need to bring the originals and undergo a mini-interview, then wait again and that’s it. Naturalization is understandable and not difficult, but the whole process may take a couple of years; I hope, in my case, this is the maximum duration. And how are you?
