I'm a simple emigrant and I don't have my own car
And even if there were, I still wouldn't be able to sit behind the wheel, because regardless of the type of visa, my Russian driver's license could be used only for the first six months. After that it would need to be replaced with local ones. Since road rules differ, you can't simply come and replace your document with a German one, but there are still some leniencies. To obtain a driver's license, regardless of whether you have a Russian one, you will have to go through the standard package: theory study, practical driving, and passing two exams. The only difference is that if you already hold a license, the required hours are fewer, which reduces your costs by almost half. In general, getting a license here is an expensive affair: if you pass both exams on the first try, you'll spend up to 2,500 euros. Prices, of course, depend on the federal state and on the driving schools themselves. To obtain admission to classes you only need to see one doctor β an ophthalmologist, unlike in Russia. But here you must take first aid courses and obtain a certificate β in my opinion, a good requirement. With theory, things are roughly the same as with us: going through the rules, solving exam tickets, questions about adequately analyzing a road situation. And the practical is more interesting. Of the mandatory driving hours β 4 hours must be logged on the Autobahns and another four at night. I wouldn't be surprised if they forced you to drive a couple more hours after a bottle of beer! Both exams cost about 80 euros each, with the theory you can take it a maximum of five times, and the practical an unlimited number of times; however, before each new attempt you must rack up another 10 hours and pay again, of course. And the exam itself lasts half an hour: the inspector also sits in the back seat and watches everything you do, and at the end he also asks a theoretical question, but about the car. If everything goes smoothly, you leave the training car immediately with the license, no extra trips to the traffic police and no queues. I haven't decided yet whether I need a license, but I'm already sure I don't have an extra 1k euros, and would you like to obtain an international card and travel the world? #Ordnung #useful
