I'm a simple emigrant and I have a couple of hobbies

Somehow my girlfriends asked me about typical hobbies of Germans, I paused to think and realized that the main interests here are related to sports. And, attention, keep the kids away from screens; there will be shock content: there are no diamond mosaics as a hobby here. According to statistics, the most common favorite activities among Germans are walking or hiking, cycling, and gardening. In general, these are hobbies that don’t require big expenses, yet for hiking people often have a full kit and high-quality footwear. Probably in any forest or mountains you can see markings on trees that help you navigate the route, and the most popular app for such walks is komoot. For cycling there is extensive infrastructure: the length of cycle paths in Frankfurt is 836 km. As for gardening, it’s mostly either private houses, or simply plants on a balcony or terrace, or allotment gardens. Slightly fewer people are interested in cooking and baking, reading, and various kinds of sports. At the same time, cooking and baking can be even a family hobby, in which several generations participate. Probably everyone has that friend who started baking bread. I have one too, and he has already bought all the special gadgets: a bread machine, a pizza oven, a special gadget for pancakes. I’m very glad that he has all this, and we’re planning to go to them for pizza or pancakes, but in my own kitchen I love minimalism. On average, Germans over 10 years old have six hours of free time per day. Although this figure includes weekends, scrolling reels and looking at the ceiling conceptually, and also schoolchildren and retirees – it’s still a good indicator. In my opinion, despite their reputation, Germans don’t spare money on hobbies. In 2025 the toy and hobby sector in Germany reached revenue of almost 9 billion euros. I have already often encountered situations where I was shocked by the price and number of gadgets among my German friends, like my friend with baking. Rest assured, they don’t buy flour and sourdough and whatever else they need at Lidl. At the same time, their salaries are quite ordinary. For me at first it was odd, because back where I’m from, when a newcomer bought himself special gear for a hobby even before achieving any success, people teased. But I’m glad that I don’t encounter that anymore. My hobbies also intersect a lot with this statistics, and running a channel about them also relates. What hobbies do you have?
