I'm a simple emigrant and I love berries
Somehow I wrote about my experience picking strawberries, this year I skipped the strawberry season, but I did manage to harvest blueberries. It happened that I picked them in the Netherlands, but in Germany there are also plenty of places where you can do it. To find such a field, Google “Heidelbeeren selber pflücken,” which translates as “self-picking blueberries,” and you’ll get a list of places with addresses and websites, if available. The blueberry season will last only a couple of weeks more: theoretically, until the end of August, but practically, in the last week, there will most likely be nothing left. We spent a little over two hours in the field, and during that time the two of us picked 8 kg, and ate at least another 500 g. As usual, what you eat there is free. Everything else costs 4 euros per kilogram. That’s a good price, because in the supermarket for that price you can buy only half a kilo and even then you can’t be sure the berries will be tasty and not a bunch of spoiled ones. And we picked the prettiest, tastiest, and largest berries! After almost a week of constant eating plus giving berries to friends, we still have about three kilograms left. Moreover, the blueberries are as fresh as on the first day and practically no mold: maybe one spoiled berry per kilogram. In short, I’m enjoying it and I recommend it to you. You should take advantage of the season while you can, guilt-free, eating a healthy snack or a snack while watching a TV series in the evening. Did you harvest any “harvest” this year? #useful
