Post: I love it when foreigners boast about their Russian

I'm a simple emigrant, and I love it when foreigners boast about their Russian

Surely, every immigrant in their life has had such a dialogue at least once: – Where are you from? – From the Russian Federation. – Oh! I know a little Russian too! – *eyes already rolling halfway back at how predictable the rest of the dialogue will be* Really? Cool, what words do you know? – “Hello, my name is Hans, grandma, okay, let’s go and..” – then a long list of swears of all kinds and sizes. – Heh-heh, very impressive, nice work! One day I found myself in exactly that situation; I asked as usual about knowledge, the German initially answered in the classic way. And then, suddenly he says: “Also I know: sausage, potato and RITA MARGARITA NAILED WITH A BRICK.” I was like, EXCUSE ME, WHAT?? This was the first time in history when such a dialogue was interesting not only to the foreigner but to me as well. Personally, I last heard this phrase about seven thousand years ago; where did that random German even know it? And he remembered it, and translated it too. My tastes, of course, are specific, but I never thought someone could impress me with Rita-Margarita. Then he also told me about a bicycle and something else, but none of that mattered anymore; my brain had already flown off on a linguistic journey through teasing taunts. And what interesting things have foreigners told you in Russian? #curiosities #language
