I'm a simple emigrant and I'll tell you how German women feel about gray hair
I recently found as many as two gray hairs on my head! They sit side by side, holding hands, chatting with their two little legs between them. And this is already the second time I’ve seen gray hair on my head. The first time it was just one strand. I pulled that rogue out immediately. But now there are two of them, and what next? Surely, then four at once, then eight? If I keep pulling them all out, I’ll go bald; I’ll need a different method. In Germany, attitudes toward gray hair among women are more relaxed. Of course, here as everywhere there are those who dye for various reasons: to look younger, simply like another color, someone who started graying too early and has grown used to dyeing. But the German Institute for the Future writes that more and more people now prefer naturalness and highlights the megatrend Silver Society. There is even the term Best Ager — these are people 50+, who set trends and lead an active lifestyle. For them, gray hair is more like a stylish accessory and a symbol of experience. I think everyone notices that the endless list of constant beauty procedures is not a story about German women. According to statistics, more than 74% of consumers in Germany choose hair and scalp health over an “ideal” color. For them, sitting four hours in the hairdresser’s chair, which you have to book right after the previous visit, and paying a decent sum, all just to ruin their hair, sounds completely unattractive. And those who go to the salon more often are increasingly choosing gray-blending: a coloring technique that interleaves natural gray strands with the base color. In professional circles, for example among lawyers, doctors, or professors, gray hair is sometimes read as a sign of competence and self-confidence. In principle, German society still holds the belief that women with natural hair color are confident and strong people who value themselves and do not chase social approval. Next time, pay attention to the shelves in cosmetic and household goods stores in your city: are there many products for gray hair care? In our DM or Rossmann, there are already huge displays with such lines. Because, if the process cannot be stopped, then it’s high time to build a quality business around it and support the new aesthetics. So I decided to take on this experience as well; now I’ll simply follow the fate of Hansel and Gretel, I hope they don’t plan to bring their entire village here too quickly. But even if they do, no problem. Being natural in an environment that supports it is much easier, yes, and much cheaper. In the photo, the proudest mannequin of one salon.
