I'm a simple emigrant and I love to rest
After being told that there would be one public holiday instead of ten for New Year, I decided to look at what holidays there actually are in Germany. First of all, it should be said that the official holidays here vary for each state. Frankfurt is located in the state of Hesse; we have only 12 'red' days in the calendar per year, but some of them fall on weekends and, unfortunately, are not moved to another day. Amazingly, the majority of them, 75%, are religious. Judge for yourselves: out of twelve days, January 1 β New Year's Day, May 1 β Labor Day, and October 3 β German Unity Day. That's all. The rest of the holidays are related to Christianity, for example, Good Friday, Easter, and Pentecost both last two days, separately Ascension Day and the Feast of Corpus Christi (???), and, of course, Christmas itself, during which we also rest two days in a row. To be honest, half of these holidays I didn't even know, but for extra days off in the year does it really matter what the occasion is? #holidays
