I'm a simple emigrant: pigeon finale
The giggles and chitchat are over. On Friday, right after work, the pigeons with their entire family flew away. And don’t try to tell me it was a mere coincidence. I’m sure they knew exactly what to do! I immediately called a couple of cleaning services for after pigeon nests. Of course, no one answered. If anyone needs protection from pigeons or cleaning and disinfection after them, look in your city using the words: Taubenabwehr, Schädlingsbekämpfung, Spezialreinigung. Also, apparently, the house master/УК can take on these problems, since I couldn’t throw them out legally. But everything inside the balcony isn’t their responsibility; they can only help. And the curb outside the balcony, on the contrary: we have no right to do anything with it, and they, in theory, should install spikes there so it doesn’t become a health problem. I wrote to them on Friday; they haven’t answered yet. Before we officially moved out of the nest, the pigeons immediately started returning, but we weren’t idle either. I read your comments, did a bit of my own research, and decided not to waste time with useless intermediate steps: to start cleaning myself right away and hang the net, although I really wanted to avoid this. In the end: five rounds of washing at 90°C, about 30 euros total for cleaning and the net and an endless amount of water. Seven hours we scrubbed the balcony, the tiles even cracked in places from the amount of droppings. I cleaned everything with a Chinese chopstick, and I didn’t throw up even once! I hope you’re proud of me. Don’t believe the tears these nests cry online; it seems they’re only like that at first; later they haul in so many sticks and some straw, enough for a herd of cows, no less. The net late in the evening decided to finish me off: while you seven times measure, we had already cut it wrong, threaded the ropes from the top and bottom, nailed it to the ceiling and discovered that the edges have too large gaps 🤡. Then I took a spare net, already in the half-darkness threaded the rope through it, while on one side they were installing, on the other – the rope fell out 🤡🤡. I did it all again and found that the net was torn on both edges 🤡🤡🤡. But we could not be stopped; we crossed our fingers and still started installing it, hoping that the undamaged part would be enough for us. Also, the thing I tied to the bottom magnetized and snagged on every burr of our fence; I was seconds away from a nervous breakdown, but I managed! Now we’ve reclaimed our balcony, and yesterday I spent almost the whole day there, enjoying the victory! By the way, the net turned out to be completely unobtrusive, and as a bonus after a day and a half not a single wasp got in.
