I'm a simple emigrant and in Frankfurt our numbers have noticeably increased
Over the last three months, more than 700,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Germany. After the shock of moving and bureaucracy, the price shock follows. But this feeling is shared by locals and those who arrived long ago, so I decided to share some ways to save. Public transport. As I already wrote — it's an expensive pleasure, and with the latest events fuel is becoming only more expensive. The German government has taken measures to support the population and offered us passes for just 9 euros a month for the whole summer. Of course, high-speed trains are not included, but that's not a problem: in almost all navigation apps there is a function to choose transport; you just need to disable IC, ICE, EC and ECE trains. These tickets are available everywhere: online, in machines, in offices. Honestly, transport operators are very unhappy with such a measure, but the Greens — all for it, as am I! Food. Groceries here are not very expensive, but in the last month chicken medallions, for example, have risen to 12 euros, compared to 9 previously. So saving won't hurt; for this you can download the Too Good To Go app and pick up ready-made meals or groceries close to closing time. The principle: you pay 3-5 euros for food worth 10-30 euros. The idea is that usually you choose what to buy, and in the app you receive a magic box and you don’t know exactly what's inside. Learning. Even though in Frankfurt you can quite get by with English, you need to know German; it makes a lot of things easier. With a tutor or in a group, learning can cost from 200 euros and up to infinity. If you don’t want to pay that much, take advantage of the free online courses from Deutsche Welle. They are structured, interesting and, most importantly, modern. Additional practice can always be found on Telegram, for example on the channel Random German for vocabulary practice, and German with Deutschspot today launches a free audio course for beginners. Things and Travel. Before ordering devices, equipment or a tourist trip, it’s useful to know where to do it most cheaply. On the site idealo.de you can find almost anything, with the ability to compare prices considering regular costs and all sorts of discounts and special offers. And what resources do you use to save money? Share your life hacks in the comments! Image: 9-euro tickets exist. I am "Eric (25 years old) who has been living on a train for 5 months" #useful
