I'm a simple emigrant, but my opinion is very important to them

I returned and, as soon as I checked the mail, there was an invitation to obtain a permanent residence card, can you imagine how fast? And a second, somewhat hefty letter. It was a request to share my immigrant opinion in an official survey from infratest dimap. This is one of the most well-known and reputable institutes for public opinion research in Germany. To reach me, they first obtained data from the registration office, and then selected the sample they needed. This is a personal appeal, so I can’t share a link to the survey. But I can tell you what they want from us. The first block of questions is about where you were born, about your parents, and your command of German. How much we feel part of society. Then they’re interested in how much we stay in a bubble: do you have Germans in your circle? How many? And would you like more? In which part of your circle are they? These questions seemed amusing to me, although I suspect you can infer the answers from them. Next they ask whether we face racism, where and how. And following are questions about trust in institutions. Courts, the police, the government, political parties, the media and various agencies – here I answered first, and I was surprised by my own answers. I looked up results of similar surveys and, amusingly, they almost exactly match mine: trust in the police and courts is much higher than in the government and parties, while the media and agencies are somewhere in the middle. Then there were blocks about attitudes toward migrants, whether they are needed in Germany and whether it’s time to close the shop. Somewhat racist questions, I thought. Well, and at the end about society’s and politicians’ attitudes toward migrants, and my attitude toward politicians. I didn’t fill out the paper version; it was easier and faster for me to complete it in Russian on the site. There was also a coupon for 15 euros. Finally I’ll get rich!
