I'm a simple emigrant, and today is the shortest daylight day
Not that this phenomenon is exclusively German, but it won't hurt us to be glad. So, starting tomorrow the daylight will only get longer. I congratulate all light lovers and especially owls: finally you will have a chance to see the sun! All in all, I like the weather in Frankfurt; it's not usually very cold here and it's usually not too hot either. But if I suddenly freeze for a second — I immediately get something like "what do you mean? you're from Siberia!". At first it was funny, but by the 7,593rd time of such a comment I started rolling my eyes and delivering a rapid lecture about how we dress for the weather there, not growing armor on our bodies or entering hibernation. Honestly, I didn't bring a fur coat or a shearling coat with me, but a down jacket for -20°C fits here as if it were native. Although, over the last thirty years, the average temperature across Germany has risen by about 2°C. In Frankfurt too. But what I notice most is not the cold or heat, but the lack of sun. I know there are people who love "St. Petersburg" greyness, coolness and rain — I'm not one of them. So only about 1700 hours of sunshine per year is not enough for me; for comparison, in my hometown there were about 2130 hours. But even that didn't save me from the fact that it was here I got the first sunburn of my life. I didn't even understand what happened; I just woke up with the sensation that I had coals all over my body. I immediately complained to a friend, and he, with his very fair skin, teased me and said, well, welcome to my world. And with the lack of snow, I simply resigned myself to it, especially since you can always find it somewhere nearby. I don't have many life hacks. First, I love wrapping myself in a warm pajama set, and the thick cozy socks are worn through already. And in the darkest month of December I go away somewhere, even if only briefly, where I can recharge with sun. And how about you—do you like the weather in your cities? Or not really, but have you already gotten used to it? In the photo is the largest snowman I managed to sculpt here.
