I decided to update my parents' laptop. The last time I used their laptop I had a mini-stroke from how badly it all works and the feeling that there were more viruses there than bacteria on a metro handrail. And to load a tab in the browser so that you could open it, go on vacation, come back, wait another five seconds and finally the tab would load. I go to the store, I find the laptop I had already chosen in advance, it has a sticker: “we updated and calibrated everything for you, with an additional €39.99.” I tell the consultant, what kind of nonsense is this? First, for whom did you calibrate everything individually? Clearly not for my mom. Second, updates, even if you want, you won't miss. And most importantly: why the hell did you touch my new laptop at all, maybe while calibrating you were still dealing solitaire for three weeks. And as for me being able to do this myself, I won't even speak. The consultant says, sorry, but we only have these laptops. Had to go to another branch. I find a laptop there, and it has the same sticker, only the price is already €69.99, I joked that here they even adjusted the screen brightness. In short, I argued with the consultants again. In the end they found in the back room for me an untouched laptop. By the way, in both branches the consultants are nice, all our interactions were on the light side, no arguing. At home I checked on the site, what exactly is included in this 70 euro service: — individual measurement and setup using special software, — adjustment of contrast, — adjustment of color reproduction, — adjustment of brightness, — initial system updates. What do you think? My joke turned out to be true. Now the brightness adjustment of the screen is my favorite setting. The moral of this tale is this: when you see this sticker, don’t rush to be upset. Better ask for a laptop without the imposed service. If you worry that the store knows better, just ask what exactly is included there. Perhaps you’ll realize that it’s nonsense, even without specialized education. #useful #money #curiosities
