I'm a simple emigrant and I don't know where to spend my vacation
In Germany, as a rule, the annual paid vacation lasts 25 working days. That means a two-week break would be counted as 10 days, not 14, and that is a noticeable difference, because in this case 15 days — that’s already three full weeks off work. In my company we are provided with 30 days of paid vacation, and they are more than enough for me. In pre-corona times, by my own feeling, I did nothing but plan and take trips. And by the end of the year I still received emails from HR asking me to take the remaining days. I think this happened because in Europe everything is close and, if you snag cheap tickets, you can constantly travel for 4-5 days and feel like you’re on a full vacation, especially by combining these trips with national holidays. The truth is, unlike Russia, here if holidays fall on weekends, they are, unfortunately, not compensated with working days. During the Corona era, there isn’t anywhere in particular to travel to, but what I dislike most is keeping track of the unique and constantly changing entry and exit rules for each country. Therefore now, by mid-November, I have spent only a third of my vacation days. In our company they cannot be compensated with cash, but you can roll half over to the next year and use it until the end of May. And even with that arrangement I will apparently have to again pick up random days in December and go with the flow: planning in our time is impossible. I never thought there would be a problem with spending the hard-earned vacation. And what about you—how are your plans for rest? #work
