I'm a simple emigrant and I got a driver's license

I have already described how, in Germany, the process of obtaining local driver's licenses works in theory. Now I have gone through this path in practice. From the very start you need to enroll in a driving school; for me it cost €349, then you need to take a photo, attend a first aid course and pass a vision test. Helpful people have already put together and offered three-in-one packages: I did all of this in one day and paid €50. Now you needed to have the Russian licenses translated by a sworn translator; that cost me €22 including shipping. Next, with all these documents you had to go to the local motor vehicle office and submit an application to replace your Russian licenses with local ones: administrative fee €44. Then the actual training began; for theory you didn't have to attend classes, so I simply bought a practice app for €10. Theory can be studied and taken in many languages, including Russian; I passed it on the first attempt, exam fee €151. For me, night driving hours were not necessary, but 4 hours on the autobahn are mandatory. Besides those, I did another 10 lessons; for the practical training I paid a total of €1,276, but it was necessary since I hadn't driven for ten years. Fortunately I also passed the practice on the first try: exam fee €256. Next you only had to go and pick up your licenses; I handed back the Russian ones because they were already expired, but if you want to keep them you can write a short handwritten statement. They will keep them for you without any problems. All in all, this process cost me €2,158; it used to be cheaper. And how did you obtain your licenses, how much did you spend on it? #useful #money
