I'm a simple emigrant and I got stuck in the airport
While I was writing about Oktoberfest, I remembered that I once ended up locked inside Frankfurt airport as well. I was returning from Tyumen again. The journey was complicated by COVID measures and extra transfers, but to my surprise everything went perfectly, except for the first flight being delayed by 40 minutes. You can’t keep us down, but you understand that things don’t always go that smoothly. I step off the plane in Frankfurt and go to passport control. The queue in front of me was quite small. I was mentally lying on the couch at home and munching on something. But that wasn’t the case. A panic suddenly breaks out. A woman officer runs up, shouts to all officers where to go, they quickly close ALL the windows, blinds and run away. We stand there clueless about what’s happening. We see that gradually everything is being closed everywhere. By rumors it’s heard that even the subway station was closed, no one is allowed out of the building and no one is admitted. Official information isn’t given to us. But the crowd has a whole bunch of versions: either the woman tried to rush through the checkpoint, or terrorists with a bomb passed, or a shootout worse than the Wild West had begun. Moreover, for each version someone in the crowd argues it as if they were shot nine times but dodged! In short, the versions sound more convincing each, but that doesn’t comfort us. We stood like that for almost four hours, until, with no particular comment as well, they quietly reopened everything, and we were let through passport control in the usual order and all. Then back home I started watching the news. It turned out that three “supposed terrorists” left a bag with cries of Allah and ran away. Naturally in an airport such jokes are bad, and all this time the police first carefully made sure there was no explosive in the bag, and then searched for the people themselves. In the end the special forces found and interrogated two, and another one was still being sought, while it wasn’t entirely clear whether there was a third at all. Have you had similar situations? #curiosities
