I'm a simple emigrant, just like the transport from the past

Sometimes you walk around Frankfurt, you look up — and there’s an airship. Huge, calm, beautiful, it hovers above the riverbanks and skyscrapers, as if it landed here by accident from the past. When I first saw it, I was very surprised, I even thought it was some kind of balloon. It was still flying then with the words GOOD YEAR and I thought — this is a sign! But it turned out it was just advertising. A hundred years ago Germany was a leader in airship construction. And Frankfurt — a hub from which the giant airship 'Hindenburg', with restaurants and balconies on board, flew to America. Back then it was a popular way to travel. But the catastrophe of 1937 buried their era. Nowadays the airship is a symbolic gesture from Zeppelin NT about Frankfurt's former glory. It isn't used to move people anywhere anymore; it’s just flown for sightseeing, and people admire the views. Such a half-hour excursion costs 340 €, and for 45 minutes you'd have to pay 510 €. You can still buy a ticket and enjoy the flight now through August 29. I’ve never flown, but if any of you are lucky, tell us what it feels like. The route starts in Bad Homburg and toward Frankfurt; here it circles the surroundings and, it seems, hovers over the city center longer. If you want to track the airship in real time, enter the codes D-LZFN, D-LZNT, or D-LZBW on Flightradar24. And also the hangar webcams sometimes show takeoff and landing. For those who don't want to fly on it — watching from below is also a thrill. It’s well visible from the center, especially on a clear day, and it’s impressive no less. Such a huge slow whale, which in both literal and figurative senses is above this city's bustle. And you can also go to the Zeppelin Museum and safely visit inside the cockpit. Would you dare ride the airship? #frankfurt #history
