I'm a simple emigrant, like the transport from the past

Sometimes you walk around Frankfurt, look up — and there’s a dirigible. Huge, calm, beautiful, hovering above the banks and skyscrapers, as if it had landed here from the past. When I first saw it, I was really surprised, I even thought it might be some kind of air balloon. It was still flying then with the words GOOD YEAR and I thought—this is a sign! But it turned out it was just advertising. A hundred years ago Germany was a leader in dirigible construction. And Frankfurt was a hub, from which the enormous dirigible ‘Hindenburg’, with restaurants and balconies on board, flew to America. Back then, it was a popular way to travel. But disaster of 1937 buried their era. Nowadays the dirigible is a symbolic gesture from Zeppelin NT about Frankfurt's former glory. It's no longer used to travel; you simply cruise by and admire the views. Such a half-hour tour costs €340, and for 45 minutes you'll have to pay €510. Right now and until August 29 you can still buy a ticket and enjoy the flight. I've never flown, but if any of you are lucky enough, tell me what it feels like. The route begins in Bad Homburg and toward Frankfurt; here it circles the surrounding areas and, it seems, hovers over the city center longer. If you want to track the dirigible in real time, enter the codes D-LZFN, D-LZNT, or D-LZBW on Flightradar24. And also the webcams at the hangars sometimes show takeoff and landing. For those who don't want to fly on it — watching from below is also a thrill. It is well visible from the center, especially on a clear day, and it impresses no less. Such a huge slow whale, which, in both literal and figurative senses, is above this city's hustle and bustle. And you can also visit the Zeppelin Museum and safely go inside the cockpit. Would you dare to ride a dirigible? #frankfurt #history
