I'm a simple emigrant, and in Germany they also celebrate May 1st

Today in Germany there's another holiday, but Germans started celebrating it yesterday. On the night from April 30 to May 1, the Walpurgis Night (Walpurgisnacht) occurs here. It's such an ancient German tradition, something like Halloween in spring. According to legend, on this night witches gather on the Brocken mountain, hold a witches' sabbath, brew potions and dumplings, and dance with the devil – basically they rejoice until the Inquisition comes for their heads. Ordinary mortals also hold their own sabbath: they jump over bonfires, dance in clubs or simply on the streets, and sometimes even dress up and go to the castle for a party. Unlike witches they also drink beer and eat sausages. You wake up after such a night, and there under the windows a birch tree with ribbons has been set up somewhere. Don't rush to call an ambulance, this is another May Day tradition. Maibaum – it's a tree with tied ribbons, like in the photo. The more romantic guys install the May tree personally under the windows of their beloved. This tradition has been known since as far back as 1224, and somewhere since the 17th century it became part of rural matchmaking. Now it's more often just a sign of affection, even if the beloved is already your wife and you have seven children. I think the guys who did this were very brave. After all, if the girl reciprocated, she cooked dinner. And if not, the tree stayed there forever. Consider it a monument to the friend zone. And then finally Labor Day itself. Union rallies, marches of the concerned, but about this I've already written I've already written. #holidays
